Extract from Pine Bluffs Gazette, 25 July 1958 Sheriff Auder Re-elected Opponent Disputes Result Last night local businessman, newspaper owner and prominent citizen Lorne Auder held a party in the Red Rooster Hotel to celebrate his re-election to the post of County Sheriff. At the same time Richard M Nixon, a local attorney and former editor of this gazette, was holding a press conference in the Cattlemen’s Club to announce he would be disputing the result of the 23rd July election. “It’s the last time I compete fair and square”, said Nixon, “that guy (Sheriff Auder) just bought himself into office”. “If ever I get into public office I shall take an example from the underhanded methods of that guy Auder”. This newspaper can find no truth in any of the alegations and wish our public spirited owner every success in his continued fight against crime and coruption. |
