Future Planning
With a number of new members joining the section recently, it was decided that it would be desirable to move to a round-and-round design, the ulimate aim we had with the original design. After building a second fiddle yard and converting Pine Bluffs Depot to a 'through' design, we have now begun designing two new modules, and the transition boards to link them.
The two new modules are being designed to be the short sides of our round-and-round layout, but will also be able to be exhibited either seperately, or connected to another module. Both will be 'U' shaped modules, consisting of 5 boards, four that each turn through 45 degrees, and one 1 metre board, and will be able to either be operated locally or globally.
Construction of all but one of the new boards is now complete, and work on the supporting legs will begin soon, with track laying to follow. The two new modules are described below.
Red Dot Mine
This will be a mining layout, with a mainline passing loop and local sidings relevant to the mining area. It will also incorporate a one metre board nicknamed 'Straight-Elbow Canyon', featuring a large bridge.
The Truck Stop Module
The as-yet un-named TruckStop module will contain a Truck Stop, Diner, Memorial Park and an Intermodal Depot. It will also have a mainline passing loop.
