The February Exhibition 2012 took place on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 February 2012, and was held at Eggars School in Alton. The exhibition hosted a wide variety of layouts from across the south, including Springfield, East Street Wharf, Ottosschwande und Schwieghousen Schiefer Steinbruch, Rhinefield, Chipplea, and Roundhouse.

Group Open Day – Sunday 6 May 2012

Ever wanted to join a model railway group? Ever had a model making question but did not know who to ask? Come along to the AMRG open day where you can come along, meet members, see what we do, and ask the Group questions.

The open day will be held at our regular meeting room, the 8th Alton Scout HQ in Anstey Park, just after the Rugby Club and British Legion. Doors are open from 10am to 4pm, and entry is free.

Visit to Great Western Society at Didcot

It was a pleasant spring morning when a small (but well formed) group of members assembled for a visit to Didcot and the Great Western Society. Fortunately in spite of the ‘Southern’ leanings of many of the Group two Great Western stalwarts (namely ‘Somerset Boy’ and ‘Wiltshire Lad’) were in attendance.

We had pre-booked a guided tour which took us behind the scenes and in particular afforded us access to the workshops. The shear number of locos waiting to be ‘processed’ through the workshops was a surprise as was the dedication of the volunteer maintenance teams who at times must feel like they are painting the Forth Rail Bridge.

A great (western) day was had by all and the trip was declared a success (the fact that we returned with the same number of members we set out with was a major plus in itself).
