Group Sections

Currently the Group has sections involved in the construction and exhibiting of layouts in British 'OO' and 'O' gauges and American 'HO' gauge. More details of these can be found by accessing the individual section pages. In addition Group members are involved in 'G', 'HO' Continental and '4mm' 'finescale'.

  • American Section

The American Section of the Alton Model Railway Group was formed in 1992 and currently has five members. The section is dedicated to the furtherance of American Model Railroading in the Alton area. The section created the Pine Bluffs & Ceda Falls Railroad, and currently has its own 'HO' layout of Pine Bluffs Depot.

  • Alton Section

Alton is the second OO gauge layout to be built by the Group. The layout is based on Alton station as it appears in the present day, enabling the section to display a wide variety of stock, including standard mainline passenger trains, and the more unusual locos seen on The Mid-Hants preserved railway, which also runs into Alton station.

  • O Gauge Section

The O Gauge Section of the Alton Model Railway Group was formed in 1997 and currently has four members. The section is constructing its own layout, Southolt. Southolt is described as a 'small' layout (as if anything in O gauge is small) based somewhere in West London.

  • S4 Section

The S4 section was created at the 2003 AGM of the Group. The Group now has four S4 modellers, and it is hoped that the planned layout will lead to further members. An S4 layout is currently being planned by the section.

  • Members layouts

Members of the group have built and exhibit (frequently in some cases) their own layouts.
